Smeet is a social game that combines virtual interaction with extensive customization options.
Players can express their unique style by assembling individual outfits from a vast selection of thousands of clothing items, ranging from everyday wear to extravagant fashion pieces. This rich wardrobe allows users to create personalized looks that reflect their personality and stand out in the vibrant virtual community. Through customization, players not only enjoy creative freedom but also connect with others in a space that celebrates individuality.
Goals
Enhancing social engagement is key by providing players with stylish clothing that allows them to express their individuality and shine in multiplayer settings.
Each week, I release a cohesive collection of up to 60 items that align with the week’s room theme, ensuring consistency in style and quality to deliver a seamless, exciting experience for players. The sale of clothing items serves as a major pillar of the game’s revenue.
I design exclusive, premium items—often time-limited—to spark excitement and drive purchases, while fostering long-term investment through curated packs and subscription options. Additionally, I create special outfits for in-game events like the fashion shows to keep the community actively engaged and inspired.
Challenge
Maintaining quality while creating up to 60 high-quality items each week requires me to implement efficient workflows, foster strong collaboration, and manage time and my team effectively.
At the same time, I must ensure there is enough diversity in the designs so that players receive fresh and unique items every week, which isn’t easy with such a high output. Keeping the community engaged and invested in the game is a constant priority. To meet these demands, I rely on having the right resources, tools, and support to ensure the team can keep up with the fast-paced schedule.Roles and responsibilities
Research
To gain a deeper understanding of our target audience, I developed user personas to inform and guide design decisions. I conducted a comprehensive evaluation of both competitor products and the current product to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. Additionally, I created a journey map for the existing slot machine, which helped pinpoint areas where the updated version required a fresh approach and revealed opportunities to address and eliminate pain points.
Modelling and Texturing
A strong understanding of user needs and close engagement with the user base allowed for an expedited wireframing phase. The initial low-fidelity prototype was quickly developed and subjected to A/B testing, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Over time, the prototype underwent several iterations, continuously refined based on user input and data insights. This phase provided an opportunity to experiment with various design variations, enabling me to identify the solutions that worked best for the users.

A strong understanding of user needs and close engagement with the user base allowed for an expedited wireframing phase. The initial low-fidelity prototype was quickly developed and subjected to A/B testing, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. But it became apparent that implementing this idea, was one of the mayor pivot points for keeping retention high over time.

AI tools can assist by generating fast UI elements or by providing suggestions for a super low-fidelity prototype. This can save time during the earliest design phase when all ideas are collected. This facilitated rapid feedback within the team, ensuring clear communication and alignment among all members.

Even with the lower fidelity prototype, users were eager to invest, and user engagement increased up to 100% more.
Adding a competitive game mechanic
The themed slot machines were a welcome addition to already existing competitive mechanics in the game. Users were able to support their own team by choosing slot machine A (A-Team-Themed) over slot machine B (B-Team-Themed).
